HOW TO MEASURE AT HOME

The absolute best option is to use calipers, or ask your tech to measure using theirs. But if you don't have ready access to either you can use the following:

DRILL BITS
Insert the back end of a drill bit into the peg holder on your bell:

  • 1/4" bit = 1/4" peg
  • 9/32" bit = 7mm peg (a hair larger than 7mm, but the closest standard bit)
  • 5/16" bit = 8mm peg

OTHER OPTIONS
No drill bits? These work too:

  • a 1/4" screwdriver bit (the hex shank is 1/4" across),
  • the plug of a full-size 1/4" headphone or guitar cable
  • a knitting needle marked 6.5, 7, or 8mm.
  • Pencils and pens vary too much to trust.

If none of these options help, you can mail your current peg to me and I will ship it back to you together with the new one.

A bass clarinet peg replacement that works sitting and standing. The stock peg on most bass clarinets runs 6 to 12 inches, which works in a chair but is too short to play standing; this one comes in 18, 24, or 30 inch lengths, so you set it anywhere along its length and play either way with the one peg.

Pick your peg diameter

  • 1/4" – others
  • 7mm – Buffet Crampon, Yamaha, Selmer (Paris), Selmer (USA), Holton, Backun
  • 8mm – Royal Global
  • 3/8" – Jupiter

Leblanc: pegs seem to differ between 7mm and 1/4", so please measure yours before ordering. Model not listed? Write to me with the make and model and I will confirm the fit before you order.

Not sure of your size? How to measure your peg

Hold a drill bit against the shaft of your current peg, side by side, and find the one that matches with no gap:

  • 1/4" bit = 1/4" peg
  • 9/32" bit = 7mm peg (a hair larger than 7mm, but the closest standard bit)
  • 5/16" bit = 8mm peg

No drill bits? These work too: a 1/4" screwdriver bit (the hex shank is 1/4" across), the plug of a full-size 1/4" headphone or guitar cable (6.35mm), a metric hex key of 6, 7, or 8mm, or a knitting needle marked 6.5, 7, or 8mm. Pencils and pens vary too much to trust.

You can also use calipers, ask your tech to measure it, or mail your current peg to me and I will ship it back to you together with the new one. Between sizes or unsure? Write to me and I will help you work it out.
